Apple Pie Spice

During the fall season, particularly around Thanksgiving and Christmas time, you’ll find a lot of recipes that call for apple pie spice. While it’s usually okay to substitute ground cinnamon, the primary ingredient of apple pie spice, it’s simple enough to make your own homemade version.

My homemade apple pie spice substitute is perfect in a pinch and allows you to customize the level of spices to suit your personal preferences.

Homemade Spice Mixes

I love making my own spice mixes and seasoning blends because I’m a control freak and I love knowing exactly what I’m adding to my food. We like to keep these basics on hand:

  1. Pumpkin Pie Spice
  2. Cajun Spice Mix
  3. The Best Steak Seasoning
  4. Easy Fajita Seasoning Recipe
  5. Homemade Old Bay Seasoning

What Is In Apple Pie Spice?

Some of my favorites spices can be found in this lovely spice blend. I use a combination of these spices:

  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • ginger
  • cardamom
  • allspice

Each spice plays a role in this seasonal spice blend. I find that the best flavor comes from fresh spices so do check the expiration date!

Try this homemade apple pie spice recipe in this homemade apple pie filling or baked apple pie dip – soooo good!
