Why Make Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice?
- Because you want to save money! Those little tiny bottles of pumpkin pie spice are NOT cheap. You can make your own for a fraction of the cost and it couldn’t be easier.
- Adjusting the flavor is simple. If you’re not a fan of allspice or cloves, you can reduce or eliminate.
- Whenever you run out, you don’t have to make a trip to the store. Just make another batch!
- It’s a great way to use up those big bottles of spices in your pantry. While I may not use every one of these ingredients a lot, they are exceptional in a spice blend like this one. It’s the perfect use for spices you don’t find yourself using on their own that often.
- I love including a bottle with some homemade pumpkin treats for friends and neighbors. It’s always appreciated and I know they’ll use it.

How Much Pumpkin Pie Spice Do I Use?
This pumpkin pie spice recipe is a direct replacement for what you would find in the store. Use the same amount in your recipes.
Can I Double Or Triple The Recipe?
Yes! This recipe scales easily. Just keep the ratios the same.
Do I Have To Use Allspice?
It adds depth, but if you don’t have it, just leave it out – the blend will still taste amazing.
Trish’s Tips
- Use Fresh Spices: The fresher the spices, the more flavorful your blend will be.
- Shake Before Using: Give the jar a quick shake before measuring—it ensures the spices stay evenly distributed.
- Make It a Gift: Package in small jars and tie with a ribbon for a thoughtful homemade holiday gift.
- Label the Jar: Don’t forget to mark the date so you know how long it will stay fresh.

Looks great! Pardon my ignorance, but does one use the same amount as suggested in that particular recipe?
Trish - Mom On Timeout says
Hi Judi! This recipe makes ab out 5 tablespoons of pumpkin pie spice. So if your recipes calls for 2 teaspoons, just use 2 teaspoons of the spice mix. Hope that helps!
