Strawberry Mojito Recipe

This Strawberry Mojito is fresh, fizzy and filled with the flavors of sweet strawberries, bright citrus and fragrant mint in every sweet sip. Light, fruity and refreshing, this easy mojito is one of my favorite drinks for summer. It’s perfect for backyard pool parties, showers, cookouts and all your summer celebrations.

Include the rum for a classic cocktail or leave it out for an equally delicious mocktail that kids and adults will love. I’ve included instructions for two simple preparation options (cold press juicer and a classic muddled cocktail) so use whichever works best for you. The classic method gently muddles the fruit and mint right in the glasses, while the cold press juicer method creates a smoother drink that comes together quickly.

You can also choose sparkling water or club soda for a crisp finish, or use lemon-lime soda when you want something a little sweeter. Add fresh fruit and mint to each glass for a beautiful finishing touch. With so many ways to make it your own, these strawberry mojitos are a refreshing drink you’ll want to enjoy all summer long.

Why You’ll Love This Drink

Whether you’re hosting a summer party or simply enjoying a sunny afternoon at home, this Strawberry Mojito makes any occasion feel special. Fresh strawberries, mint and citrus create a vibrant, refreshing drink that looks just as wonderful as it tastes. The recipe can be made with or without rum and can be doubled or triple for a crowd. I know you’re going to love this drink as much as we do! Here’s why:

How To Make Strawberry Mojitos

Whether you’re hosting a summer party or simply enjoying a sunny afternoon at home, this Strawberry Mojito makes any occasion feel special. Fresh strawberries, mint and citrus create a vibrant, refreshing drink that looks just as wonderful as it tastes. The recipe can be made with or without rum and includes two easy preparation methods.

Both methods are quick and easy, so your choice comes down to the texture you prefer and the equipment you have available. The classic preparation leaves bits of muddled fruit in the glass, while a cold press juicer produces a smoother fruit and citrus base.

Classic Muddled Preparation

  1. Prep the fruit. Wash and hull the strawberries, juice the orange and lime.
  2. Divide the ingredients. Divide the strawberries between two glasses. Add mint leaves, orange juice, lime juice and simple syrup to each glass.
  3. Muddle gently. Lightly press the ingredients together to release the strawberry juices and mint oils. Do not pulverize the mint, which can give the drink a bitter flavor.
  4. Make the cocktails. Fill each glass with ice, strawberries and fresh mint. Add white rum and top with sparkling water, club soda or lemon-lime soda.
  5. Make the mocktails. Omit the rum and top each ice-filled glass with additional sparkling water, club soda or lemon-lime soda.
  6. Finish and serve. Stir gently, add the garnishes and serve the drinks immediately.

Cold Press Juicer Preparation

  1. Prep the fruit. Wash and hull the strawberries, juice the orange and lime.
  2. Juice the produce. Process the strawberries, mint, peeled orange and peeled lime in the cold press juicer according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Adjust the flavor. Taste the juice and stir in simple syrup as needed. Add an extra squeeze of lemon or lime juice if you prefer a tangier drink.
  4. Prepare the glasses. Arrange strawberry halves or slices along the inside of each glass. Add fresh mint and enough ice to hold the berries in place.
  5. Assemble the drinks. Divide the juice between the two glasses. Add rum for cocktails or omit it for mocktails, then top with your preferred fizzy mixer.
  6. Garnish and serve. Stir gently, garnish as desired and enjoy immediately while the drinks are cold and bubbly.

Storage Information

Leftovers? Not likely. But here’s what you need to know…

Strawberry Mojitos are best assembled just before serving so the ice stays frozen, the mint tastes fresh and the mixer remains fizzy. Once combined, the drinks will become diluted as the ice melts and will gradually lose their bubbles.

  • Make Ahead: For advance preparation, hull and cut the strawberries and squeeze the citrus juice up to one day ahead. Store each component separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. The cold-pressed strawberry and citrus mixture can also be refrigerated in a tightly sealed container for up to 24 hours, although its fresh flavor and color are best the day it is made. Wait to muddle the mint, add the rum and pour in the sparkling mixer until you are ready to serve.
  • Freezer: Freezing the finished mojitos is not recommended, but the strawberry-citrus juice can be frozen without the rum or sparkling water. Freeze it in an ice cube tray for up to 2 months, then thaw the cubes in the refrigerator or add them to future drinks.

Variations To Try

This refreshing recipe is easy to adapt with different fruits, mixers and flavors. Keep the basic proportions in mind, then adjust the sweetness and citrus to taste.

  • Replace some of the strawberries with raspberries, blackberries or blueberries.
  • Replace the orange juice with pineapple juice for a tropical twist.
  • Add more lime or lemon juice for a brighter, tangier drink.
  • Top the drinks with lemon-lime soda or use a combination of soda and sparkling water.
  • Use coconut rum in place of white rum for a sweeter cocktail with tropical flavor.
  • Replace some or all of the mint with fresh basil for a delicious herbal variation.
  • Blend the strawberries, citrus, simple syrup, ice and rum until slushy. Leave out the rum for a frozen mocktail and finish each version with a splash of sparkling mixer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a cold press juicer?

Not at all. The classic preparation is made directly in the glasses with a muddler or the handle of a sturdy wooden spoon. The juicer is simply an alternative for anyone who prefers a smoother drink.

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Fresh strawberries provide the best appearance and texture, especially for the fruit added to the glasses. Thawed frozen strawberries can be used for muddling in a pinch, but they will be softer and may release more liquid.

Can I use bottled orange and lime juice?

Freshly squeezed juice provides the brightest flavor and is highly recommended for this recipe. Bottled juice will work if needed, but the finished drink may taste less fresh and vibrant.

What can I use instead of white rum?

Vodka can be substituted for a more neutral cocktail, or you can use coconut rum for a sweeter, tropical flavor. For the most traditional mojito-style flavor, white rum is the best choice.

Can I make a pitcher instead?

Yes. Multiply the ingredients by the number of servings you need and gently muddle the fruit, mint, citrus and simple syrup in a pitcher. Refrigerate the mixture briefly if needed, but wait to add the ice, rum and sparkling mixer until shortly before serving.

How can I make the drink less sweet?

Start with less simple syrup and use sparkling water or club soda rather than lemon-lime soda. Taste the fruit mixture before assembling the drinks, then add more syrup only if needed.

Trish’s Tips

  • Sweet, fragrant, fresh strawberries will give the drinks the best flavor and color.
  • Freshly squeezed orange and lime juice make a noticeable difference in such a simple drink so if you can, use fresh!
  • Use a muddler gently on the mint but make sure to press the strawberries enough to release their juices.
  • Make sure to taste before assembling. The sweetness of the strawberries and oranges can vary so adjust the simple syrup and lime juice as needed before adding the ice and mixer. Keep in mind that if you are adding lemon lime soda, that will add quite a bit more sweetness.
  • Cold rum, juice and mixer will help the drinks stay colder longer without relying on extra ice. So chill before making.
  • Pour the sparkling water, club soda or lemon-lime soda gently and just before serving to preserve as much fizz as possible.
