Instructions

Classic Preparation

  • Divide the strawberries between two glasses. Add 4 mint leaves, 1 ounce orange juice, ½ ounce lime juice and 1 ounce simple syrup to each glass.
1 cup strawberries, 2 ounces orange juice, 1 ounce lime juice, 2 ounces simple syrup
  • Gently muddle the ingredients to release the strawberry juices and mint oils. Avoid crushing the mint too aggressively, which can make it taste bitter.
  • For cocktails: Fill each glass with ice. Divide the prepared strawberries and remaining mint leaves evenly between the glasses. Add 2 ounces of white rum to each glass, then top each drink with about 2 ounces of sparkling water, club soda or lemon-lime soda. A combination of mixers is also delicious.

Cold Press Juicer Preparation

  • Add the strawberries, 8 mint leaves, peeled orange and peeled lime to the juicer. Remove as much of the citrus pith as possible before juicing. Process according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Taste the juice. Stir in up to 2 ounces of simple syrup, depending on the sweetness of the fruit, and add more lemon or lime juice if you prefer a tangier drink.
    2 ounces simple syrup
  • To decorate the glasses, lay each glass on its side and arrange the strawberry halves or slices along the inside. Divide the remaining mint leaves between the glasses, then add enough ice to hold the strawberries in place. Set the glasses upright.

Storage Information
Strawberry Mojitos are best assembled just before serving so the ice stays frozen, the mint tastes fresh and the mixer remains fizzy. Once combined, the drinks will become diluted as the ice melts and will gradually lose their bubbles.
  • Make Ahead: For advance preparation, hull and cut the strawberries and squeeze the citrus juice up to one day ahead. Store each component separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. The cold-pressed strawberry and citrus mixture can also be refrigerated in a tightly sealed container for up to 24 hours, although its fresh flavor and color are best the day it is made. Wait to muddle the mint, add the rum and pour in the sparkling mixer until you are ready to serve.
  • Freezer: Freezing the finished mojitos is not recommended, but the strawberry-citrus juice can be frozen without the rum or sparkling water. Freeze it in an ice cube tray for up to 2 months, then thaw the cubes in the refrigerator or add them to future drinks.
