What You’ll Need

This amazing and delicious pineapple salsa recipe is an explosion of flavor that the whole family will love. Here is a quick look at what you’ll need for this recipe and as always, you can find the full printable recipe card at the end of this post.

  • pineapple and mango: These fruits add natural sweetness and soft texture to the salsa. Their tropical flavors are the heart of this salsa. If you’re looking to switch up the flavors, consider papaya or peaches.
  • red bell pepper and red onion: These vegetables provide a crunchy texture and a slight sweetness and bite that balances the heat from the jalapeño. Feel free to substitute orange or yellow bell pepper for a similar flavor profile.
  • tomatoes: Add a touch of acidity to the salsa and is a classic ingredient in salsa recipes. You can use Roma tomatoes, cherry, grape or any other tomato you prefer. I like to remove most of the seeds and membranes when preparing this salad.
  • cilantro: Adds a fresh, somewhat savory flavor that complements the sweetness of the fruits.
  • jalapeño: Adds a spicy kick to the salsa. Add more or less depending on preference. Feel free to substitute a spicier pepper such as serrano or habanero for more heat or use a milder pepper such as poblano (my favorite!) for a milder salsa.
  • lime zest and juice: Adds a brightness to the salsa that enhances all the other flavors. Consider mixing with lemon juice or orange juice for a slight twist to the recipe.
  • honey: Brings up the sweetness of the salsa be enhancing the natural sweetness in the pineapple and mango. Brown sugar works in this recipe as well.

How To Make Pineapple Mango Salsa

Let’s take a quick look at the steps for making this recipe and, as always, you can find the full, printable recipe card at the end of this post.

  1. Fruit Prep. Dice the pineapple, mango, red bell pepper, red onion and tomatoes. Mince the cilantro and jalapeño. Zest and juice the lime. Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Dressing. Whisk together the lime juice and honey.
  3. Assemble. Drizzle the dressing over the fruit and toss gently to combine. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Storage Information

This salsa is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator, in an airtight container, for up to 2 days. The lime juice helps preserve the colors and flavors. Give it a quick stir before enjoying.

Freezing is not recommended as it can significantly alter the texture of the fresh ingredients.

Variations To Try

This recipe is delicious as is but here are some tasty variations to try:

  • Turn up the heat. Add extra jalapeño or try habaneros for some really intense spicy flavor.
  • Fruit-astic flavor. Add more fruit to this salsa for even more flavor. Strawberries, papaya, peaches would all be amazing options.
  • Herb-alicious. Add minced basil or mint instead of cilantro for a completely different herbal note in the salsa.

What can I serve with this Pineapple Mango Salsa?

This versatile Pineapple Mango Salsa recipe can be enjoyed on it’s own or in a variety of dishes. Here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy it:

  • Tacos and Quesadillas. Top your tacos and quesadillas with this vibrant, flavorful salsa. Whether you’re making shrimp, chicken or beef tacos – this delicious salsa is the perfect topping.
  • Seafood. One of my favorite topping for seafood, this amazing salsa is delicious over grilled fish or shrimp or alongside ceviche.
  • Grilled or Baked Chicken. Spoon this mango salsa over grilled chicken breasts for a burst of tropical flavor.
  • Chips. Everyone’s favorite! Tortilla chips are the perfect vehicle for transporting this tropical pineapple salsa into your mouth. Easy, delicious and perfect for parties.

Can I make this salsa ahead of time?

Yes! You can prepare this salsa a few hours ahead of time. Making it a few hours ahead of time allows the flavors to meld nicely. Keep it covered and refrigerated until ready to serve. For the best texture I recommend not making it more than a day in advance.

Is this salsa spicy?

It really depends on the jalapeños and every jalapeño has a bit different spice level. If you include the seeds and membranes, it will make the salsa much spicer. Eliminating the seeds and membranes makes the salsa more mild and kid-friendly.

Trish’s Tips

  • For a scoop-able salsa, keep the fruit and veggies piece small and uniform in size.
  • Taste the salsa before serving and adjust as needed. Add additional honey, lime or jalapeño to suit your preferences.
  • Allow the salsa to chill for at least an hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld fully.
  • Try this salsa with some creamy avocado for a fun twist.

I like to soak the chopped red onion in cold water for about 30 minutes before adding to the recipe. It cuts the ‘sharpness’ .
