Storage Information

This breakfast shake is best enjoyed fresh as the ingredients can separate over time. However, if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

Variations to Try

  • Try swapping the espresso powder for a instant coffee for less of a kick or using cold brew for a smoother flavor.
  • For a chocolate lover’s dream, add another spoonful of cocoa powder or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
  • Sprinkle on some chopped nuts or chia seeds to give it a little crunch.
  • Add in a handful of mixed berries.
  • Different flavors of protein powder will give ‘shake’ up this coffee protein shake.
  • Add a tablespoon or two of peanut butter for a chocolate peanut butter protein shake.

What type of milk should I use?

You can use any type of milk you prefer, such as cow’s milk, almond, oat, soy, coconut – anything you like!

What kind of yogurt should I use?

Greek yogurt is recommended for its thickness and protein content, but you can also use regular yogurt. I usually opt for plain Greek yogurt but love vanilla in this recipe as well.

Trish’s Tips

  • For extra creaminess, freeze your banana beforehand. This will give your shake a thick and indulgent texture.
  • Enhance the flavor and texture with toppings like whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or a sprinkle of cinnamon or espresso powder.
  • Adjust the ratio of ingredients to find your perfect coffee protein shake balance.

I am not a yogurt fan, do you have to use it?

Okay, this might sound silly, but there is something else you could put in besides the banana? I’m not a huge banana fan unless it’s in bread form. Would strawberries or blueberries work? Thanks!

Sure Kate! Substitute whatever you’d like. The texture will be slightly different but no biggie 🙂 Have a great weekend!

I’m addicted to something similar, although I toss in a squeeze of honey and haven’t tried the yogurt. I’ve found the Starbucks VIA packets to be just the right amount of jolt and very handy to use.
