These Easy Accordion Tree Ornaments are an excellent way to keep little hands busy over winter break. Gorgeous on your tree or on top of a gift! | MomOnTimeout.com | #diy #craft #Christmas #MakeAmazing #spon

Winter break starts on Friday. I’ve already started coming up with a list of activities for the boys to keep them occupied over the following 17 days. What? You don’t count out the exact number of days your kids are going to be home with you??? #dontjudgeme

These Easy Accordion Tree Ornaments are high up on the to-do list this year. So fun to make and so easy my six year old can totally do this on his own. These make the absolute CUTEST ornaments and also look gorgeous on gifts. Try wrapping in plain brown packaging paper and topping with one of these trees – beautiful!!

Let’s get started!

Materials Needed:

  • White cardstock – this project used one sheet
  • Scissors
  • Adhesive dots
  • Twine and/or ribbon
  • Hole punch
  • Popsicle sticks (use colored, plain or paint the color of your choice)
  • Star stencil
  • OPTIONAL: white paint and paint brush
  • Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape in various colors and patterns – this project used Techno Blue, Green/White Swiss Dot and Green

Instructions:

Gather the materials you will need for the project.

materials-needed

Cut a piece of cardstock into three rectangles. Make them as small or large as you want. I used one piece to get all three trees shown. Lay the paper on a flat surface and place horizontal strips of tape in the color and pattern of your choice. I used Scotch®Expressions Washi Tape in Techno Blue, leaving small white spaces between strips.

Turn the cardstock over and fold excess tape over the edges. Then, fold the cardstock like a fan or accordion.

trees-step-1

Once the entire piece is folded, keep folded and use a hole puncher to punch a hole in one end of the cardstock. (Be careful not to punch hole too close to the edge of the cardstock.) Adhere a few adhesive dots to the top of a popsicle stick. Then, unfold the cardstock and press the popsicle stick to the backside of the tree.

trees-step-2

Print out this star template, use a star stencil, or freehand the star yourself. Cover the star in washi tape to match your tree, and carefully cut out the star. Cut a piece of twine or ribbon and thread it through the punched hole.

trees-step-3

Tighten it and secure with a double knot to create the point of the tree. Then, tie a loop so the ornament can be hung. Use an adhesive dot to attach the star to the front of the tree.

trees-step-4

Repeat the previous steps to create two more accordion tree ornaments using Scotch® Expressions Washi Tapes in Green/White Swiss Dot and Green.

This is what I call a “keep ’em busy” project – my favorite kind!
