Reece lost his first big tooth up top.  On Christmas.  It was literally hanging there for most of Christmas break and the poor kid couldn’t eat anything comfortably.  He would take bites using the side of his mouth.  We laughed because it was so cute but he didn’t seem to think it was too funny.  #badmommy

I was totally mourning the day that it was going to fall out.  He looks so darn cute with his baby teeth!

Well we made it all the way through Christmas before that sucker finally fell out.  Reece comes running out to us on Christmas night after we had already put him to bed, shouting that he lost his tooth – that he REALLY lost it!  We went back to his bedroom and there it was all nestled in his sheets.  He was SO excited!

So was I.

He looks even cuter with a missing tooth.  If that’s at all possible :)

Of course then there’s the whole thing with the Tooth Fairy.  I casually explained that the Tooth Fairy took off Christmas but she was going to be back in business the following night.  Reece totally understood.

Well, now his other front, top tooth is also hanging.  I mean that thing has to be coming out, like, today.  It’s getting harder and harder for him to eat and so one thing he’s been requesting a lot of lately (and I could only guess that the rate of requests will increase after this second tooth bites the dust – pun intended) is smoothies.  The boys adore their smoothies but now with Reece missing some chompers, well, they’re becoming a daily thing.

I, being the people-pleaser that I am, have been making smoothies up the kazoo.  Smoothies like this Skinny Pina Colada Smoothie – one of my favorites! The boys go crazy for this one! It’s super sweet because I use super-ripe pineapple in the smoothie.  Whenever pineapples go on sale for like $1.99, I grab two, one for now and one that I let sit for a few days before slicing up and freezing.  It’s WAY cheaper than buying frozen pineapple and SO much sweeter!

I use lite coconut milk to keep the calories down and the flavor up.  Then a little bit of rum extract (yes, that’s a thing – find it next to the other extracts) is what takes this smoothie and me one step closer to paradise.  Oh yeah, I also use Greek yogurt (of course!) and protein powder for my smoothies.

Simple. Sweet. And skinny!

  1. Oh my gosh, he sounds so cute without that front tooth! What a good mommy you are making all these smoothies. :) I absolutely love pina colada, but don’t drink them much because of the calories – this is perfect! And the rum extract is brilliant!

    • He’s just too cute for his own good Lindsay :) These smoothies really do taste like the real thing and they’re made with actual pineapple instead of just the juice so you get more nutrients. Thanks girl!

  2. Are you the queen of delicious smoothies?! Geez all of yours looks awesome!

  3. I have a skinny pina colada smoothie recipe too. Basically any excuse to get these flavors, and I’m in. Yours is gorgeous!

The tooth. My daughter lost a tooth a couple days before Xmas. We were on vacation and out of the country and she was all worried that the tooth fairy wouldnt find her. I said kids loose teeth here, too, and the tooth fairy finds them so she’ll find you. But I know all about the missing teeth and trying to eat & cook for them!

    • Thank you so much Averie! Pina coladas are just the BEST :) That is so sweet about your daughter! What a great memory :) That tooth fairy is just too good! So Reece lost his second one last night. Now he’s got the two front teeth missing and it is SO cute! He’s excited because he said he was scared to eat before with his dangler ;)

All of these sound and look delish! Definitely trying some of them! Thanks so much!

  5. that pineapple is calling my name – it even looks sweet – YUM! and where did you find those coconuts?
Heather @ French Press recently posted..Buffalo Style Baked Potato Chips

    • It was SUPER ripe Heather :) I get my coconuts from this little market about 2 miles from my house. It’s called Earth’s Fresh Market. These coconuts are usually 2/$3. And they are really, REALLY good. Tons of coconut milk inside too!

  6. I’ve been craving smoothies so much lately, so thanks for fueling that this week! Really, I need to get my blender out this weekend for sure. I adore pina colada flavors, so this sounds divine, Trish!

  12. Trish, that is the cutest story EVER of him loosing his tooth! Reminds me of my youngest… man, he let that sucker hang on FOREVER. When he lost the second top tooth soon right after his first one, he was beyond devastated he couldn’t whistle anymore. Now, that they have grown in… the excitement on his face was priceless when he was able to whistle again. Boys!
Now, with this smoothie… this happens to be my absolute favorite! Have a great rest of your weekend!

  15. Hi Trish! This sounds SOOOO refreshing right now! And I totally need to remember that summer WILL eventually come back (we had -40F windchill this past week!) and that we’re not stuck in the polar vortex forever! :)
I love that you used frozen pineapple – I would have likely used ice … which of course would have diluted the smoothie! You’re genius!
