Strawberry Topping

We eat a lot of ice cream during the summer. I mean, A LOT of ice cream. We make all kinds of fun flavors like Monster Cookie Dough, Turtle Brownie, and Cherry Cheesecake but sometimes it’s plain ole vanilla that my boys are craving.

I get a lot of requests during the summer to whip up this easy strawberry sauce. It takes just minutes to make and the flavor is simply unmatched.

By the way, blend this topping in with some vanilla or strawberry ice cream, some milk, and some malted milk powder….heaven.

Fresh Strawberry Sauce

This easy strawberry sauce is made with fresh strawberries for unbelievable flavor. As I mentioned earlier, we love this strawberry topping on ice cream but here are some more great uses for this strawberry syrup:

  1. yummy strawberry syrup for pancakes, waffles, stuffed French Toast
  2. delicious strawberry sauce for cheesecake or ice cream
  3. strawberry topping for pound cake or angel food cake
  4. mix in for yogurt or layered in a parfait

Easy Strawberry Topping Ingredients

There are just 3 ingredients in this recipe plus water. Use the best looking strawberries for the best flavor. Don’t put in mushy strawberries because it WILL affect the flavor.

  • strawberries – you’ll need to wash, stem, and hull the strawberries for giving them a rough chop
  • sugar – granulated sugar, when melted helps to make this strawberry syrup
  • water – this speeds up the cooking process and helps to break down the strawberries
  • fresh lemon juice – balances the sweetness from the sugar and strawberries and gives this strawberry sauce a bright, fresh flavor

How To Make Strawberry Syrup

This recipe is just incredibly simple and FAST to make. My favorite kind of recipe. Strawberries, sugar, water, and a bit of lemon juice all jump in a small saucepan together and cook down until syrupy. Let’s do this!

  1. Combine strawberries, sugar, lemon juice and water in a small saucepan.

  2. Bring to a simmer and cook over medium low heat for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to keep from bubbling over.homemade-strawberry-ice-cream-topping-cooking
  3. Let the strawberry sauce cool before transferring to an airtight container.
  4. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

    Trish,
Our strawberry patch had a wonderful season, too! It is winding down as the raspberries are starting up, so we’re getting 2 kinds of berries each time we head out to harvest. I love having an edible back yard!
Thank you for a wonderful recipe–perfect timing!

I’m never into the jarred sauces because they taste so fake. Yours looks SO good, and it’s easy and natural! I’m going to give this a shot!
