Ingredients:
1 pound breakfast sausage
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk or half & half, heavy whipping cream, evaporated milk – pretty much any dairy product ;)
Black pepper to taste – I use lots of cracked black pepper
pinch of sugar {cause that’s what my Nana used!}
Directions:
Brown sausage. Season liberally with black pepper. Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage and stir. Let flour cook for 1-2 minutes and then gradually add milk, stirring as you pour. Bring gravy to a simmer and let thicken. This is where my Nana adds a pinch of sugar and so do I. She told me that it helps the gravy brown and I guess that makes sense because the sugar is caramelizing. Who knew?

That looks so good! I love the pictures of your son enjoying it too! Wasn’t On-Line Blog Con fun? Hope you are having a good week!
I have a protein shake every day for breakfast and my sweetie likes his yogurt with honey and blueberries.
I LOVE biscuits and gravy! It’s my favorite breakfast! Thanks for the recipe! I’m pinning this! http://moresisterstuff.blogspot.com/

Yummmm. I think this might have to be our breakfast on Saturday!! During the week we stick to cereal, a quick bagel, or other 5 minute breakfast options, but on the weekends I like to take time whipping up something yummy.
mmmmm can I come for breaky? Looks yummy stopping by fromkitchen fun with my 3 sons
One of my favorite comfort foods. Saw your link on French Country Cottage. :)
I’ll be darned- I never thought to add a bit of sugar. I’ll try it next time, thanks!!!
YUM!!!!! Growing up in the south, biscuits & gravy has always been one of my favorites. This looks like a great recipe. Tks for sharing. Love the pics of your little one enjoying them, shirtless :)
All I need now is a good biscuit recipe!!
I am not a huge breakfast fan … except for biscuits & gravy! This looks so good – now I am craving so bad!
hehe! I’m making some this morning for Bryce – come on over!
Oh yummy! Do you think this could work with a milk substitute like almond or soy milk?
It would definitely alter the flavor some but you could give it a try :) Maybe cut the recipe in half the first time?
Oh My YUM! I’ve never made this at home but I think it’s about time! Thanks for the simple recipe.
Sausage Gravy. The way to a southern girls heart! :) Ok, well, not really, but pretty close.
I’d love for you to come link up at my party this week. http://www.gingerlymade.com/2012/11/show-and-tell-2.html
I grew up in CA and was never introduced to sausage gravy until college (I went to school in Tulsa). And I love it! I feel like I had a deprived childhood now. :-)
Thanks for sharing at The Fun In Functional!
My husband LOVES sausage gravy – I’m going to have to try your trick of adding sugar next time!
I give the credit to my Nana :) She was a master in kitchen!
How would this freeze? Im trying to freeze a bunch of breakfast options for my kids and they love biscuits and gravy. Also have you tried freezing your biscuits?
I have never tried freezing it Danielle so I’m not sure. The biscuits should freeze fine. You might want to just freeze the dough.
I have never, ever, ever made sausage gravy over biscuits. Mostly because with three kids I don’t have time or the bravery to make something that I may or may not ruin.
Well, my husband was on the verge of leaving me unless I made some, so I did a search and I used this recipe.
It’s absolutely easy and absolutely delish!
You may have saved my marriage! lol
THANK YOU!
And also, I freeze left over biscuits, pancakes and waffles all the time. Just let them thaw before serving. I let them sit out for about an hour and that does the trick. :)
Oh my goodness Erica! I just read this comment to my husband and he was laughing so hard! I am so glad that you gave it a try and yes – it’s EASY! So glad to save your marriage and thank you so much for stopping by and letting me know how it went! Hope you had a wonderful Easter!
