Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

We have been enjoying our air fryer immensely over the past few weeks. It seems like every day we are finding new and delicious ways to use this new household appliance.

Without a doubt, I’m loving what the air fryer has done for dinner time in our house, especially when it comes to making tasty, veggie side dishes that my boys will actually eat.

These bacon wrapped asparagus bundles have become one of our new favorites.

Don’t have an air fryer? No problem! I’ve got instructions for the oven too!

Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Recipe

Less than 10 minutes of prep and just about the same amount of time in the air fryer or oven delivers crisp-tender asparagus flavored with garlic and Parmesan wrapped with irresistible bacon.

Asparagus and bacon go together so well and when you add in a little garlic and Parmesan – heavenly!

I have included instructions below on how to make this asparagus recipe in the oven as well so if you don’t have an air fryer – no worries!

How To Make Air Fryer Asparagus

  • First, preheat your air fryer to 350 F degrees.
  • Rinse your asparagus well and break off the woody part of each of the asparagus spears.

Tip: Simply hold the asparagus at either end and bend until it snaps. Place the asparagus spear next to the rest of your spears and cut at the same point on all of the remaining asparagus.

  • Place asparagus in a large mixing bowl and drizzle with olive oil.
  • Add garlic powder, salt and pepper (to taste) and toss to combine.
  • Separate the asparagus spears into 4 to 6 even bundles.
  • Wrap the bottom of each bundle of asparagus with a strip of bacon. You can use a half strip of bacon if you prefer.

This recipe is *almost* as good without the bacon so if you don’t have any, or just don’t like bacon (?!?), feel free to omit from the recipe and just skip that step.

  • Place the asparagus bundles in the air fryer and cook for 8 to 12 minutes depending on the size of your spears and bundles. Look for the bacon start to crisp up and the spears to become tender.
  • Remove the asparagus from the air fryer and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  • Return to the air fryer and cook for an additional 5 to 7 minutes or until bacon is cooked to your liking.

What You’ll Need To Make Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

This easy side dish recipe uses just 5 ingredients and some salt and pepper. I love that it doesn’t take a lot of crazy ingredients, and that with the exception of the asparagus, these are all pantry staples in our home.

  • asparagus – see tips below on how to pick out the best asparagus. You’ll need about one bunch of asparagus for this recipe.
  • olive oil – extra virgin or regular olive oil is fine
  • garlic powder – adds a lovely flavor to this  bacon wrapped asparagus recipe
  • Parmesan cheese – you’ll get better results if you freshly grate the Parmesan cheese
  • bacon – I use a thinner bacon for this recipe so that it crisps up. You can always cut the strip of bacon in half if needed.
  • salt and pepper to taste

How To Pick Out Fresh Asparagus

Fresh asparagus is the first step in a good asparagus recipe. Here are some tips:

  1. I always look for thinner asparagus spears. The thinner they are they quicker they cook and the more tender they will be.
  2. Look for bright green, firm asparagus stalks. If the spears are looking limp or bendy, keep looking.
  3. The tips of the asparagus spears should be dry, firm, and tightly closed.
