Candy Cane Reindeer are an easy-to-make Christmas craft for kids of all ages! MomOnTimeout.com

Candy Cane Reindeer are an easy-to-make Christmas craft for kids of all ages! MomOnTimeout.com

Today was all about Bryce. He’s been feeling a little left out of our crafts lately and I wanted to do something that would be fun, easy, and age-appropriate for my little guy. Reece and I have been crafting up a storm and I think the pace and the crafts have just been too much for Bryce to really enjoy. I gave Bryce a couple of options of what we could do and he chose Candy Cane Reindeer. Basically Bryce likes any crafts where he gets to pick out googly eyes 😉

Candy Cane Reindeer are a really fun craft because they can be completely customized based on the color of candy canes you buy and the materials you use for their noses, eyes, and antlers. We busted out about 10 Reindeer in about thirty minutes before his nap and that was only because I was having to wipe off Mac n Cheese from the googly eyes after Bryce was picking them out.

Note to self:  Wash Bryce’s hands and face after lunch.

Also, can I say how totally inexpensive this craft is? You can buy a box of 10-12 candy canes for $1. A bag of 25 Brown Fuzzy Sticks was $0.77 at Walmart. Googly eyes and pom poms are also super cheap and you can even buy those at your local dollar store. Basically, you should be able to make 10-12 Reindeer for under $4 {probably less if you have some of these materials on hand}.

What’ll you need:

  • Brown fuzzy sticks {pipe cleaners}
  • candy canes
  • googly eyes
  • red pom poms {or brown or black}
  • hot glue

Instructions:

Tie one fuzzy stick around the candy cane leaving equal lengths on either end. Fold each side in half and twist the fuzzy stick to secure.

 Cut another fuzzy stick in half. Fold each end to the middle and twist. Twist on to the existing antlers to secure.

Add googly eyes and a nose with hot glue or craft glue if you have time 🙂  We used a variety of pom poms and even beads for the nose.

My little reindeer have it GOOOOOD! They’re currently lounging in a trough of Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips – YUM!

Bryce was kind enough to point out that these Reindeer have only one leg…sometimes you just can’t win!
