This homemade Whole Wheat Bread recipe is so much better than anything you can buy at the store! Made with oats, brown sugar and honey for a hearty texture and subtly sweet flavor that’s perfect for sandwiches, soups and toast!

- Dry active yeast or instant yeast - Granulated sugar - Warm water - Whole milk 110°F - Unsalted butter - Brown sugar - Honey - Old fashioned oats - Whole wheat flour - Salt - Bread flour

Ingredients

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, or the bowl of a stand mixer, add the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Stir to combine and allow to sit for 5 minutes or until you see bubbles form on the top.

Step 2

Add the warm milk, melted butter, brown sugar, honey and oats. Stir until well combined.

Step 3

Add the whole wheat flour and salt to the mixture and stir to combine. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed.

Step 4

Slowly add in the all purpose flour, adding in about ⅓ cup at a time, mixing on medium-low speed until all of the flour is well incorporated.

Step 5

Start with 2⅓ cups of flour and add additional flour, a tablespoon at a time, as needed, scraping down the sides and bottom of the bowl frequently.
