This DIY Art Display Station is the perfect solution for displaying and preserving your child’s artwork! Thanks to Scotch Brand for sponsoring this post and inspiring me to make this DIY Art Display Station!
I have the BEST DIY project for you today! It’s a DIY Art Display Station for your child’s art work! I got this idea after walking through my house and seeing every single one of our doors looking like this….
Yeah. You might have been inspired as well 🙂 We’ve been going through a lot of tape lately…
So this project is really very simple but it’s the perfect way to display your child’s art work. Each piece of art is laminated to preserve and protect. The boys have started an inbox where they put their finished artwork that they want laminated and displayed next. This art display station was the perfect addition to our home and was most definitely needed 🙂
Materials Needed:
- Scotch™ Thermal Laminator with Never Jam Technology and Scotch™ Thermal Laminating Pouches
- plywood – this projects uses 2ft x 2ft
- four trim pieces for frame – this project uses 1.25″ x.25″ trip pieces
- paint – your choice of colors
- Scotch Ultra Strength Adhesive
- Scotch™ Designer Multi-Purpose 8” Scissors in Zebra
- Scotch™ Mounting Putting and Scotch Restickable Dots
- printed letters for the “My Art” sign
- Command™ Brand Large Picture Hanging Strips – this project uses four
1. Gather necessary materials.
2. Paint the plywood and trim pieces and let paint dry.
3. To create the display frame, apply Scotch Ultra Strength Adhesive to the plywood and align the trim pieces along the adhesive. Use the clamps to apply pressure while the adhesive dries.
4. To decorate the sign, first use scissors to cut out the the letters. Next, cover the entire front side of each letter with Scotch Expressions tape in your choice of design.
Flip the letter over and use scissors to trim off excess tape. Use the utility knife to get into tight corners. Repeat for all letters.
5. Now it’s time to laminate! This laminator is seriously my new favorite tool and the boys are SO impressed with it. I find myself laminating art several times a week now 🙂 To laminate the decorated letters, turn on the Scotch™ Thermal Laminator with Never Jam Technology and allow it to warm up for 5-6 minutes. A light will signal when the machine is ready to go.
6. Place the letters in Scotch™ Thermal Laminating Pouches, making sure there is enough space in between each letter, and feed the pouches, one at a time, through the laminating machine. Once all the letters are laminated, use scissors to cut out each letter.
7. Repeat the laminating steps for each piece of artwork. Quick Tip: Write the name and date on the back of each piece of art before laminating. Great for those of with poor memories 😉
8. Next I used Scotch Expressions Washi tape to add some visual interest to the plywood backing. I recommend the Washi tape for this step because it is repositionable. Makes it easy to get the lines perfect 🙂
9. Attach the laminated letters and art to the frame by removing a small piece of Scotch™ Mounting Putting and kneading until soft. Adhere the putty to the back of each letter/art and press firmly onto the display frame. I also used Scotch Restickable Dots to place the artwork.
10. To hang the art display frame (and avoid unnecessary holes in the wall), prep the surface by cleaning with isopropyl rubbing alcohol, wipe gently, and let dry. Remove the hanging strips from their package and separate each strip. Connect two strips by pressing together until you hear a click.
11. Remove the liner from one side and press against the frame. Repeat with remaining strips. (Use the directions on the back of the package.) Remove the exposed liners, position the frame against the wall and press the frame against the wall for 30 seconds.
(The frame can be removed by grabbing at the bottom corners and pulling up and outward towards you. Wait one hour before remounting the frame.)
And that’s it! The boys just LOVE it and they are so proud to see their artwork on display!
I love that nothing is permanent. We can repaint the trim and change out the artwork on a whim.
I think this project turned out so cute and I only made one mistake…
I needed to make TWO! Of course the boys each want their own 🙂
