5 SECRETS TO GETTING DINNER ON THE TABLE...FAST!

Calling All Avengers! #MarvelAvengersWMT

September 23, 2012

My family loves the Avengers. Like LOVES the Avengers. I could tell you about all the toys and merchandise we own but I will just tell you that right now, in my guest bathroom, we have an Avenger soap pump. There. Enough said.
The excitement has been building in our household as each Marvel movie has been released and has exceeded all expectations. Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Incredible Hulk, Captain America – these movies are all family favorites! We have been eagerly {and possibly a little bit impatiently} awaiting the release of Marvel’s The Avengers and it is finally here! Of course we pre-ordered The Avengers Blu-Ray:)  Walmart has such a fantastic deal where for $24.96 you get The Avengers Blu-Ray/DVD/Graphic Novel Combo Pack from Walmart – everything a true Avengers fan needs! The Graphic Novel is really amazing and there is only a limited quantity available.

We spent the weekend doing all things Avengers and ended with a fantastic Avenger-themed feast. First things first we downloaded the Avengers Augmented Reality App before we headed to Walmart. Have you heard of this app? It’s super cool and is available at both the Google PlayStore and iTunes. The app let’s you use your phone to fight bad guys and spaceships and as you beat each level you unlock a character.

To gain access to the character you need to go find the special Avengers displays at your Walmart. Once you locate a display, use the app to take a picture of the display the character becomes animated.

After our carpet installation was complete on Saturday, we assembled the family and headed over to Walmart to pick up some party supplies to celebrate the release and to go on an Avengers hunt! We found our first display and some awesome Avengers costumes! Reece will be Captain America and Bryce is going to be Thor for Halloween 🙂  Avengers assemble!

We used this handy little map of Avengers App Triggers to discover the remaining trigger points at Walmart.

We headed to the Electronics department and then over to Toys taking pictures with our app along the way.

Thankfully I brought my husband along for this adventure because we needed both phones to keep the boys from fighting over who got to play the Avengers Augmented Reality App – it’s kind of addicting! We picked up some party supply essentials for a real Avengers party….

…and finally made our way over to the FOOD! We picked up all kinds of fantastic eats and were so excited to see these super awesome pizza boxes and ANOTHER trigger point! The hard part was decided on which pizza we wanted to pick up so we compromised and picked up two 🙂  We had so much fun using the app and doing our Avengers shopping and you can check it all {HERE}on Google+.

I love throwing a party and I was excited to throw ANOTHER Avengers party since Reece’s birthday party was months ago 🙂  Bryce kept asking “Another Avengers party??” He wanted to know whose birthday it was – so cute! I got the table all set up and printed out some cute cards to really bring our food to life. I served up all kinds of goodies in addition to the pizza for the family. Reece and Bryce got into costume to impress Grandma and Grandpa with their superhero powers while I got things together in the kitchen. I think Grandma and Grandpa were more impressed with how dashing Reece is as Captain America and how utterly cute and brave Bryce is as Thor 🙂

I finally got everything together and I’d love to give you a little tour! You know how I love a good play on words so first up is Captain America’s Sweet Shields. These little beauties are strawberry and blueberry shortcakes and were an absolute hit! I whipped up some heavy cream and cut rounds out of pound cake to make them special. What a treat! You an also see Black Widow’s Spider Bites {notice the red gel..} and Pepper Potts. Get it? Pepper. Pots. Work with me people!

The fun didn’t stop there! We had Fury’s Tropical Freezes to drink and Hawkeye’s Wings to go along with the yummy pizzas.

There was quite a spread and boy was it yummy!

Fury’s Tropical Freeze was just ridiculously yummy and the boys had no idea I put quite a bit of carrot juice in this little concoction. Of course, then I added whipped cream to the top…does that cancel the carrot juice out???

And the most important part of any meal – dessert! The boys thought the Black Widow Spider Bites were cute but they dug into Captain America’s Sweet Shields like true superheros at work!
And here’s an inside scoop…Captain America and Thor are the best of friends!

Avengers is being released tomorrow and if you haven’t pre-ordered you’re gonna want to get to the store ASAP and pick up your copy. If you’re as big of an Avengers fan as I am, make sure to follow Marvel on Facebook and Twitter to stay connected!

Love your party!!! It turned out so great. I especially love the Pepper Potts and Black Widow Spiders. I wanted to incorporate Black Widow into my party, but I just wasn’t clever enough. Looks like your boys had a blast!
