Holiday Pampering Gift Basket Idea

Holiday Pampering Gift Basket

Several months ago my sister experienced something that I can only describe as traumatic. She was asleep in her bed when a car crashed into her home in the middle of the night. The driver was a 15 year old boy who had taken his mother’s car unbeknownst to her.  He drove up over her front lawn and crashed into her garage, pushing my sister’s car into her dining room. Her car was totaled, her china cabinet was obliterated as well as a number of precious items that she had in there from my great-grandmother and Nana. Try to imagine walking into your kitchen and seeing your garage wall in your dining room. It was a horrifying experience for her and the past three months have been so stressful.

The upside to this unfortunate incident is that when the police and fireman arrived they had some good news for Melissa. When the car crashed into her metal garage door, the license plate was embedded into the door. You can probably guess how easy it was for the police to track down this kid. Oh yeah. I guess I forgot to mention that he fled the scene with the car. Nice, huh?

My Sisters

It’s been really hard watching her going through this difficult time and not being able to help in any real way other than providing some emotional support. Melissa likes to call and tell me,”I just need to vent right now.” I’m all ears!  I wanted to do something special for her. Something that would help her relax and feel pampered and not so stressed out. I decided to put together a pampering gift for her made up of all of her favorite things.  I love giving pampering gifts to my sisters and friends for the holidays because I know it’s often hard to take time out for ourselves and this is one way I can make sure that they will get a little pampering time in for themselves.

Melissa on her birthday

I had to do some hard-core grocery shopping as well so I headed to Sam’s Club with the boys and browsed the aisles looking for items that I knew would make her feel special. I found so many awesome ideas to put in her gift basket at Sam’s Club and I’m so excited to share it with you today!  I was really impressed with the selection and was so pleased with what I came up with for Melissa’s Pampering Gift Basket.

I picked up some Taste of Home magazines for her because her very favorite thing to do is curl up on the couch and browse cookbooks. I saw these super soft and fluffy blankets in her favorite color – sage – and knew that it would be perfect to line the basket with instead of some boring tissue.  You can’t feel pampered without some high quality chocolate so I added a bag of Ghiradelli chocolates to the mix and some comfy fuzzy slippers that she can relax in as well. Sam’s Club has an incredible selection of gift cards so I also threw in a gift card to Olive Garden – our favorite restaurant  {I’m hoping that I’ll be her plus one!}  What an awesome shopping trip!

NIVEA Sam’s Club value

I also picked up a couple bottles of her favorite NIVEA lotion which she introduced to me in college.  You just can’t beat the value when purchasing NIVEA at Sam’s Club!  We both love NIVEA and I knew that it would make her smile when she saw it.   We’ve talked so many times about how much we love NIVEA and for someone who lathers herself in lotion multiple times a day {yes, I’m talking about you Melissa}, I consider my sister to be an expert in lotion.  I personally love how it’s not at all greasy and absorbs super fast for those of us with no patience for that sort of thing {now I’m talking about me}.  I also love how soft and smooth my skin feels after using it and it’s made with all kinds of good-for-your-skin stuff like natural sea minerals and almond oil.  A perfect addition to a gift basket that is all about pampering!

NIVEA at Sam’s Club

When I got home, I gathered up all the goodies I picked up from Sam’s Club…

I made up a beautiful bow with some fun ribbon that I picked up from Sam’s Club.  Then I lined her basket with the plush blanket.

I think a big, pretty bow is an absolute must for a gift basket and this ribbon was awesome to work with!

Next it was time to fill it up with all of the goodies I picked up for her…

To finish off the basket I added some NIVEA lip gloss {another favorite of hers} and a candle to help her relax.  I just know she’s going to love it!

  1. I cannot even imagine what your sister is going through. I’m glad to hear that she was not hurt and that they caught the young man. The present that you made for her was so thoughtful. I’m sure she will love it. Megan

  2. Nice. I love receiving gift baskets. And making them too!!

This comment appeared when I added all my info to comment: “It appears that you are offline or another error occured contacting the API url, have you set it to use www or missed the www off the api url?? check the technical settings and add or remove www from the api url.”

Crumbs and chaos blog w doing this and she was able to fix it. You should ask her how.

  3. What a freak – and scary! – accident! I’m glad she’s okay. A pampering gift basket with NIVEA is definitely something she needs right now. And I LOVE that you lined the gift basket with that soft blanket. Seriously a genius idea (one that I might steal for my MIL for Christmas).

  4. Oh, my goodness! What an ordeal! I know just what you mean about shared favorites – my sisters and I are the same way. They would be delighted if I were to gift them such a thoughtful basket this holiday season! Thanks so much for sharing your finds :)

  5. That’s terrible; I’m so sorry Melissa has been dealing with this. I can identify with the precious items in the china cabinet, my grandmother’s recipes probably being the most treasured. What a great idea to pamper her with this awesome gift basket. One of my favorite gift baskets I made was a hot cocoa gift basket, filled with all kinds of winter goodies. It’s so much fun making a gift basket for someone, almost like a mini shopping spree adventure, coming up with ideas to fill the basket with.

  8. Oh, your poor, poor sister – what an awful and traumatic experience for her…I hope that she starts to feel better soon. So good to know that the police caught the culprit and can bring him to justice – although nothing will replace the precious keepsakes that she lost :(

You’ve created such a thoughtful gift for her – I too love to give out hampers – they are so much more personal than anything you can buy ready made. I made one for my sister’s baby shower and just loved putting it together.

I would love to invite you to share this at my Cook, Craft, Create Link Party at The Purple Pumpkin Blog

    Hope to see you there!

    Happy holidays :)
