On The Go with MobiGo 2! {Review}

As most of you know we have been on the go ALL summer long!  I love it and so do the boys but car rides can get awfully boring if you don’t have something to do on the way.  Several weeks ago I received a MobiGo 2 Touch Learning System to try out.  I was very excited because the MobiGo2 by VTech is designed for 3-8 year olds and Bryce and Reece are 3 and 6 – the perfect ages for this system.  VTech products are known for their smart play - entertaining, engaging, and educational and that’s exactly what I’m looking for in toys for my children

The MobiGo 2 is packed full of features that make learning fun!  The new MobiGo 2 Touch Learning System is a multi-functional, educational handheld system that allows kids to enjoy on-the-go play and hone their creativity. It’s a fun way for kids to work on basic skills such as math, vocabulary, spelling, reading, logic, drawing and more.   The MobiGo 2 comes preloaded with three great games and also functions as an e-reader, photo album, photo viewer, art studio and coloring book.

One of our favorite features is the motion sensor.  It provides for total game control and allows kids to creation action movement within the games and programs during play.  Bryce really loved using the microphone that provides different methods of game play.  You can blow into the microphone to move objects, blow off dust, or create other special effects.  You can also speak into the microphone to give a command or trigger an action.   Here is a short video of Reece playing Hamster Highway – their favorite game that was included (you can also see here that Bryce is a little chatterbox…):

Bryce has really enjoyed Art Master and Hamster Highway the most.  The games that I downloaded are a little too advanced for him but are an excellent learning tool.  He has gotten frustrated a couple of times because there are not keys dedicated specifically to the numbers on the keyboard but I’m sure he’ll get used to that :)  I really love that this is a system that can grow with the boys.

We took the MobiGo 2 on our Disneyland vacation a couple of weeks ago and it was so perfect for the car ride – I only wished I had two of them!  The boys had to take turns but it was nice to have a distraction for them and an educational one at that.  This past weekend the MobiGo 2 went camping with us and it was great!  The MobiGo 2 is so durable – it’s perfect for taking on the go and unlike adult products {phones, tablets, etc.} it can withstand the typical abuse that children dole out to their toys.

Our friend’s daughter (5 years old)  had never played with electronic toys before and after watching Reece play a couple of games she was able to pick up the MobiGo 2 and play on her own with no instruction needed.  The platform is very user-friendly and with the games that come pre-loaded, kids can pick it up and play right away.

The look and feel of the MobiGo 2 is perfect for kids.  The colors are bright and cheerful and the device is comfortable to hold.  The screen slides up easily to reveal the QWERTY keyboard which is a wonderful way to help kids become familiar with a standard keyboard layout.

The MobiGo 2 connects to VTech’s Learning Lodge Navigator™ where you can download apps and e-books (coming December 2012.  The purchase of your MobiGo 2 entitles you to three free downloads from the Learning Lodge and make sure to check out the more than 80 other apps available for download onto the expanded onboard memory.   We’ve redeemed two of our downloads but I’m holding out for the e-books for my final free download :)  I really am excited to see how the e-reader feature works!   (Join Club VTech while you there to be eligible for additional discounts.)

The new MobiGo 2 is such a great value at $59.99 (the same price as the original model!) and has the new motion sensor and microphone in addition to the touchscreen.  The MobiGo 2 comes pre-loaded with three games so your children can play immediately.  It’s perfect for taking on the go whether it’s a road trip, camping, restaurants, doctor’s office, or any other time you need a little assistance keeping your child educationally entertained.  This would make the perfect Christmas present for your little learner!

Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for VTech. I received product samples to facilitate my review.
