It’s time for some Olympic fun!!!
I am a HUGE Olympics fan. HUGE. I’m hoping to watch as many events as I can in the coming weeks and I am excited to share this experience with Reece and Bryce. This morning I turned on the TV to see what Olympic coverage was taking place. Reece was instantly interested on what this big event was. I explained what the Olympics was and why it is so exciting and important. Of course that got me thinking that we should probably do some sort of craft since tonight is the opening ceremony :) This is what we came up with – our own 2012 Olympic Banner!
Materials:
Glue (hot or white)
felt (your choice of color)
pipe cleaners (I used glitter) in the Olympic ring colors
small wooden dowel (optional)
beads
We started by making the Olympic rings. After making a couple using just one pipe cleaner, I realized the two would be much better. Sturdier and bolder. Make a circle with the first pipe cleaner. Wrap the second pipe cleaner around the first. We used the glitter pipe cleaners for some added flair but it’s not a requirement ;)
Turn a cup upside down and push the ring down as far as it will go on the cup.
I started with the blue ring then wrapped the gold around it. Next came the black/silver, the green, and then finally the red. Keep making the rings until you have all five complete.
We decided to make our banner with felt. I used white and red. I wanted to be able to hang it up so I folded over the top and glued down so that a small wood dowel could fit through the opening.
Next I glued the rings onto the white felt and the white felt onto the red felt.
Next I added the 2102 to the bottom by gluing on beads. You could also use glitter glue or sequins if you want it to be sparkly (and of course you do!)
To hang the banner, I attached some ribbon to the dowel.
And now we have a super cute and colorful banner to display our love of the Olympics!
